Over 2.5 goals explained: how the bet works

Updated 14 October 2026

Over 2.5 goals is one of the simplest bets in football: it wins when a match has three goals or more. This guide covers how it settles, how to read its price, which leagues see the most goals, and how to use a booking code to load a slip.

What Over 2.5 means

The total goals market sets a line. Over 2.5 wins if the two teams score three or more goals between them; Under 2.5 wins at none, one or two. A 1–1 draw is Under, a 2–1 or a 3–0 is Over.

Because the line ends in .5, a match can never land exactly on it, so there is no push: every bet wins or loses.

How it settles

Over 2.5 settles on the goals scored in 90 minutes plus stoppage time. Extra time and penalty shoot-outs don't count: a cup tie that is 1–1 after 90 minutes and ends 3–2 after extra time is Under 2.5.

Reading the price

An Over 2.5 price of 1.90 implies 52.6%, because 1 ÷ 1.90 = 0.526. That is the share of matches that must go over for the bet to break even at that price. The guide to reading betting odds has the arithmetic.

1 ÷ 1.90 = 52.6%

Where goals happen

Our Over 2.5 rates table covers 82 competitions and 48,107 matches. These are the five with the highest share of matches over 2.5 goals:

Finland Kakkonen Division 220174.1%4.03Jun–Oct 2026

Czech Republic 4. Liga19470.6%3.69Jun–Oct 2026
Norway Division 215569.7%3.63Jun–Oct 2026

All five are measured over the current season only (see Period), so each rate rests on a few hundred matches and will move as more are played. For comparison, the average league in the table sits at 50.5%.

A high rate doesn't make a league a good bet on its own. Bookmakers know how many goals a league produces and price it in, so what matters is whether the price pays more than the rate implies. The full table, with Over 1.5, Over 3.5 and both teams to score, is on the Over 2.5 rates page.

Using a booking code

Every Over 2.5 pick we publish comes with a booking code: five characters that build the slip for you on Paripesa, with the right match, the right market and the right odds.

  1. Copy the code from the pick. On the site, tap it to copy.
  2. In Paripesa, on the app or the site, open your bet slip and look for the option to load a slip from a code. The wording of that option varies between the two.
  3. Paste the code and load it. The match and the Over 2.5 market appear on the slip.
  4. Check that the match, the market and the odds are what the pick says, then choose your own stake.

Codes only work before kick-off: once the match starts the bookmaker no longer loads them. Prices also move between our post and your slip. If your price is materially shorter than the one on the pick, it is not the same bet.

Where to find the Over 2.5 picks
